[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 30th that during the COVID-19 closure period, remote education equivalent to regular classes will be conducted in all schools within Jeonnam Province.

To this end, the Office of Education guided remote education operation standards to schools of all levels on the 27th, and designated a total of 55 schools as remote education pilot schools, including 19 elementary, 17 middle, and 19 high schools.

The Office of Education plans to analyze problems arising during the remote education process through the operation of pilot schools and prepare improvement measures.

Remote education will be conducted according to the conditions of schools and students through ▲real-time interactive classes ▲content-based classes ▲assignment-based classes ▲and other classes separately recognized by the school principal.

Real-time interactive classes are conducted via a real-time remote education platform with video communication between teachers and students, allowing immediate feedback such as real-time discussions and communication.

Content-based classes include a ‘lecture type’ where students watch designated recorded lectures or learning content and teachers check the learning content and provide feedback, and a ‘lecture + activity type’ mainly linked with EBS Online Class and EBS courses, Google Classroom, etc., where students watch learning content and then participate in remote discussions through comments.

Assignment-based classes are conducted by teachers presenting assignments that allow students to confirm their self-directed learning content according to subject-specific achievement standards online and providing feedback.

The Office of Education views that in the current situation where the closure period is prolonged, remote education should be systematically managed at a level equivalent to regular classes rather than just supporting students' learning.

Also, all schools, including pilot operation schools, will be monitored on how to recognize classes through remote education, and based on this, a standard operation plan for remote education classes after the closure ends will be completed.

Written evaluations will be conducted after in-person classes resume, and performance evaluations will be recognized only in cases where real-time interactive classes are conducted; those conducted in assignment form cannot be reflected in performance evaluations.

Wi Kyung-jong, Director of Secondary Education, said, “The remote classes implemented this time are to analyze and supplement various conditions in advance in case attending classes becomes difficult due to COVID-19 after the start of classes,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that remote classes equivalent to regular classes are conducted for our Jeonnam students who rely heavily on public education.”
