[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is receiving great support as a relay of cotton mask donations continues to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
On March 27, the district received 11,100 cotton masks donated by local company Donghae Textile, social enterprise Mokhwa Song-i Cooperative, and Alice Closet Workshop to help overcome COVID-19.
On that day, Donghae Textile donated 10,000 3D neoprene masks worth 15 million KRW, which they produced themselves to help vulnerable groups struggling with the mask shortage.
Additionally, the social enterprise Mokhwa Song-i Cooperative donated 1,000 non-fluorescent double gauze cotton masks worth 6.8 million KRW that they made themselves, and Alice Closet Workshop also donated 100 self-produced cotton masks.
Mokhwa Song-i Cooperative was designated as a village enterprise in 2011 and certified as a social enterprise in 2017. Among its 16 employees, 12 belong to vulnerable groups. They produce eco-friendly sewn products such as shopping bags, cotton sanitary pads, and eco-bags, significantly contributing to job creation for middle-aged women in the region and improving the environmental ecosystem.
Han Kyung-ah, CEO of Mokhwa Song-i Cooperative, said, “In crisis situations like COVID-19, the value of sharing warm hearts is necessary,” adding, “As a social enterprise, we will continue to take the lead in realizing social values together.”
The donated cotton masks will be distributed to vulnerable groups including people with disabilities and local residents within Dobong-gu.
In addition, on March 18, Ssangmun 3-dong Gangbuk Woori Church donated 1 million KRW to the Dobong-gu Social Welfare Council to support snacks for screening clinic workers who are on the front lines fighting COVID-19. According to the donor’s wishes, on March 26, sandwiches, red ginseng, and other snacks were delivered to about 50 screening clinic workers at the health center, boosting the morale of workers who have been tirelessly working day and night.
Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “I am grateful to everyone who participated in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis by donating masks during these difficult times. Taking this opportunity, we will carefully monitor to ensure no vulnerable groups suffer due to COVID-19 and strive to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the local community.”
