"Reflecting Basic Philosophy of Cultural Heritage, Spirit of the Times, International Trends, and Future Values"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jonggil Lee] The 'Cultural Heritage Charter' will be revised for the first time in 23 years. The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 25th that it will amend the 'Cultural Heritage Charter' after collecting opinions from the public, academia, and cultural heritage stakeholders.
The 'Cultural Heritage Charter' was established in 1997. It was created with the purpose of spreading nationwide consensus on the complete preservation and transmission of cultural heritage amid urbanization and industrialization. It has been read aloud at various events, providing opportunities to raise awareness of the importance of cultural heritage.
This revision will reflect the newly changed social environment and the altered values of cultural heritage. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "As 20 years have passed since the charter was established, cultural atmosphere and the value of community participation have changed," adding, "We plan to amend it considering various changed values."
Earlier this year, the Cultural Heritage Administration surveyed the necessity of revising the charter among cultural heritage committee members and university students. 70.5% (556 respondents) answered that revision is necessary due to change, innovation, and shifts in the times. A Cultural Heritage Administration official said, "After more in-depth discussions, we will prepare a revision plan reflecting the basic philosophy of cultural heritage, the spirit of the times, international trends, and future values within this year."
