For Residents and Daycare Centers, Kindergartens, etc... Applications Accepted from March 30 to April 5... Easy Urban Farming Experience Even in Small Spaces... Total 300 Sets Distributed: 2 Sets per Individual, 5 Sets per Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is distributing 300 sets of box gardens (50ℓ) that allow easy cultivation of crops at home.
This project was prepared to provide residents with opportunities to experience urban agriculture and to promote the production and sharing of healthy food.
Applicants for the box garden will receive a non-toxic plastic cultivation container with a built-in water reservoir and automatic watering stick for automatic water replenishment, one bag of potting soil, and 10 seedlings such as lettuce and chicory.
Individuals can apply for up to 2 sets, and groups up to 5 sets. With support from Seoul City and the district, each box garden set is offered at an affordable price of 8,000 KRW.
The eligible applicants are residents of Dongjak-gu or groups such as daycare centers and kindergartens.
After the announcement period until the 29th, applications can be submitted from the 30th to April 5th through the announcement section on the district’s website.
Final recipients will be selected by electronic public lottery, and results will be announced on April 6th via the district website.
The selected residents will have the box garden sets delivered directly to their registered addresses.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Economic Promotion Division.
Additionally, the district will operate the ‘2020 Disabled Nature Experience Learning Center’ targeting welfare facilities and groups for the disabled within the district until December.
Support for rental fees will be provided for 20 slots to four groups: ▲Didimdol Daycare Center ▲Bulsse Bicycle Club ▲Seoul Metropolitan Developmental Disability Welfare Center ▲Walking Out to the World Club.
Kim Jungwon, head of the Economic Promotion Division, said, “By creating box gardens, residents can utilize small spaces in the city to self-supply safe and fresh food,” adding, “We hope urban agriculture will become more active through the participation of many residents.”
Until last year, the district established 38 locations including rooftop gardens and school gardens, and is promoting various projects to revitalize urban agriculture.
