[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A 17-year-old boy showing symptoms of pneumonia has died, prompting health authorities to conduct post-mortem specimen tests.
According to health authorities on the 18th, the 17-year-old boy passed away at 11:15 a.m. at Yeungnam University Hospital in Daegu. The patient had no underlying conditions, and the cause of death was multiple organ failure.
Multiple organ failure refers to a condition where organs in the body stop functioning properly or become severely impaired. It is caused by bacteria that induce pneumonia, nephritis, laryngitis, and other illnesses.
The boy was reportedly transferred recently from Gyeongsan Central Hospital in Gyeongbuk to Yeungnam University Hospital. Prior to death, routine tests for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) came back negative.
A health official stated, "Due to pneumonia symptoms, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency conducted a post-mortem COVID-19 specimen test, and we are currently awaiting the test results."
