[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] A police officer in his 30s who was chasing a theft suspect in Muan, Jeonnam, collapsed and is receiving hospital treatment.


According to the Muan Police Station on the 10th, at around 1:40 a.m. that day, Sergeant A (37), who was chasing a theft suspect on a side road in front of a restaurant in Muan-eup, Muan-gun, collapsed during the process of apprehending the criminal at the scene.


Sergeant A, belonging to a certain police substation in Muan, was transported to a university hospital in Gwangju in a state of cardiac arrest by the fire department and is receiving treatment, but is reported to be in critical condition.


It is known that Sergeant A responded to a report at around 1:28 a.m. that "students were trying to steal a car" and set out in pursuit.


Sergeant A chased the theft suspects for about 150 meters and collapsed while subduing one of the suspects.


After providing emergency treatment to Sergeant A, the violent crime team and substation police officers of the Muan Police Station caught two middle school student suspects of car theft at the scene.


The police also arrested three other middle school accomplices who had fled to Mokpo on charges of special theft and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
