From March 25 to April 5 at Hanyang Repertoire Theater in Daehangno
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The theater company Dalpaengi Jupasu will perform its 4th regular show, "Ash - Calling, Kim Jae-il," from March 25 to April 5 at Hanyang Repertory Theater in Daehangno.
The play "Ash" is the first story of Dalpaengi Jupasu's 2019 Performing Arts Mid- to Long-term Creation Support Project, the "Gray Human Project." The "Gray Human Project" is composed of four different performances centered around the major theme of "loss of humanity." Starting with "Ash," the second play "Sanlanki" will be performed from May 6 to 17 at Noeul Small Theater in Daehangno.
The protagonist of "Ash," Kim Jae-il, is in his 40s. He has a presence that others do not?a being called "Ash." Ash always follows Kim Jae-il but is invisible to others. Ash constantly reminds Jae-il of his past dreams. With words as sweet as candy, Ash endlessly talks about passion, ambition, and high ideals. One day, Ilju, Jae-il's friend who shared the same dream and had held onto it longer than Jae-il, dies. Ilju leaves a will. After Ilju's death and will, Ash suddenly changes attitude and begins to provoke Jae-il. Caught between choosing a dying life day by day or chasing his dreams again, Jae-il wagers his remaining life and family in a final bet with Ash.
"Ash" is a work directed by Lee Won-jae, the representative of Dalpaengi Jupasu, who brings to the stage a new work by writer Song Cheon-young, known for witty ideas and a unique writing style. Lee Won-jae and Song Cheon-young previously collaborated on the play "Inside (人-cide)."
Director Lee Won-jae recently appeared as an actor in various works including the KBS2 drama "The Most Beautiful My Daughter in the World," and plays such as "Winter Is Cold and Spring Is Far," "All Soldiers Are Pitiful," and "Hamlet." He is also actively working as a director through plays like "Eating Rice" and "Inside."
Han Yoon-chun, an actor from the National Theater Company, takes the lead role in this performance. Han Yoon-chun won the Best Acting Award at the 39th Seoul Theater Festival in 2018 for the play "Orla" and received the Actor of the Year Award from the Korean Theater Actors Association last year.
Gong Chan-ho, who appeared in the plays "Family" and "The Good and Evil of Venice," and Kim Yeon-cheol, who appeared in "The Criminals' Printing House" and "Chojung-ri Letters," play Ilju, Jae-il's friend and the deceased actor who committed suicide. Choi Jeong-hwa, who recently appeared in musicals "Only You," "Laundry," and the play "Longevity Shop," plays Ilju's wife, Chun-ja. Kim Min-kyung, who appeared in the play "My Friend Is a Movie Star," plays Jae-il's wife, Mi-sook. Lee Yoon-soo, who gave an impressive performance in the play "Eating Rice," plays Jae-il's daughter, Yoon-hee. Other Dalpaengi Jupasu members Lee Ji-yong, Jung In-ji, Lim Jun-ho, Kim Jun-pyo, Han Sang-gil, and Kang Il-kyung also appear.
