Jangheung-gun Yuchimyeon, Spring Energy Boosts Shiitake Mushroom Inoculation Activity

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 8th that Yuchi-myeon, known as the largest production area of shiitake mushrooms nationwide, is recently bustling with shiitake mushroom spawn inoculation work.

Yuchi-myeon is located upstream of Jangheung Dam and is known as a clean area without special pollution sources such as livestock farms or factories.

The shiitake mushrooms cultivated here were registered under the geographical indication system in 2006, and as of last year, 112 farms harvested about 46 tons of log-grown shiitake mushrooms.

Recently, Yuchi-myeon has been striving to enhance the competitiveness of shiitake mushrooms by improving quality in response to labor shortages and rising labor costs.

With the full-scale shiitake mushroom spawn inoculation season underway, Yuchi-myeon has been conducting on-site agricultural guidance, improving working conditions, and providing training on spawn inoculation techniques and accident prevention.

They are also promoting customized consulting for each farm, including education on log management after spawn inoculation, which has received positive responses in the field.

Moon Bong-dae, head of Yuchi-myeon, said, “Yuchi shiitake mushrooms boast the best quality nationwide due to their thick texture and good aroma,” and added, “We will strive to provide field-oriented education and growth guidance to produce high-quality log-grown shiitake mushrooms.”
