Decision to Provide Cheomseongwan Located on School Grounds
Kyungpook National University: "Daegu-Gyeongbuk Must Overcome Difficulties Together"
Scheduled for 4 Weeks. Daegu City: "Gave Great Hope"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Mewon] Kyungpook National University has decided to provide dormitories as residential treatment centers for patients infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
On the 8th, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin said at a regular briefing, "This morning, Kyungpook National University allowed the use of two dormitory buildings with about 680 rooms," adding, "This decision gave great hope to Daegu City, which has been anxious to expand residential treatment centers, as well as to worried citizens and patients."
Kyungpook National University stated in a presidential statement, "Through the practice of our motto?truth, pride, and service?we have the responsibility to share in the difficulties of Daegu and Gyeongbuk," and "If Daegu does not return to normal early, the educational mission that Kyungpook National University must fulfill cannot be properly achieved, leading to this magnanimous conclusion."
The dormitory provided by Kyungpook National University is 'Cheomseonggwan,' located within the campus. It is used by undergraduates, graduate students, and foreigners, totaling 681 rooms. During the semester, it operates as double occupancy rooms, typically accommodating about 1,200 people.
Kyungpook National University plans to provide Cheomseonggwan as a residential treatment center for mild COVID-19 patients for four weeks. To minimize unexpected side effects, Daegu City will completely isolate and block the center from the outside and conduct disinfection.
Until now, Daegu City has struggled to secure beds and facilities to hospitalize patients amid the rapid increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases. As of midnight on this day, among the total 5,378 confirmed cases in Daegu, 2,252 patients are waiting for hospitalization at home or elsewhere.
Daegu City explained, "Today, 124 patients will be admitted to Daegu Medical Center, Keimyung University Daegu Dongsan Hospital, Armed Forces Daegu Hospital, Gongju Medical Center, and others," and "770 patients are scheduled to be admitted to Kyungpook National University dormitories and the National Pension Service Cheongpung Resort."
