Joseonguk Fair Trade Commission Chairman Conducts On-Site Inspection of Online Sales for COVID-19 Related Products
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 6th, Cho Sung-wook, Chairman of the Korea Fair Trade Commission, visited the headquarters of the online shopping mall Coupang in Songpa-gu, Seoul, to inspect the sales status of daily necessities related to COVID-19, such as masks and hand sanitizers.
Coupang explained to Chairman Cho, "If unfair practices by vendors, such as unilaterally canceling consumers' mask orders and then selling them at abnormally increased prices or bundling masks with other products, are discovered, we take measures such as suspending the sale of the relevant items."
Furthermore, Coupang added, "To reduce the burden on consumers purchasing masks and hand sanitizers, we have frozen the prices of masks and hand sanitizers sold directly through 'Rocket Delivery' and limited the purchase quantity per person," and "For consumers whose mask orders were canceled due to stockouts, we are securing masks and reshipping them."
Chairman Cho expressed his gratitude and encouragement for Coupang's voluntary regulation related to COVID-19.
