[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea National Oil Corporation announced on the 5th that it donated 200 million won to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and support the affected areas.
On the same day, the Oil Corporation held a delivery ceremony at its headquarters in Ulsan, deciding to designate 100 million won each to Ulsan Metropolitan City and Daegu Metropolitan City through the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea.
The Oil Corporation stated that all executives and employees participated in raising the donation, adding the company’s contribution to the funds collected to prepare a total of 200 million won to support local communities and residents suffering from COVID-19.
The funds will be used to provide masks to the underprivileged in Ulsan and to support medical staff in Daegu Metropolitan City.
Yang Soo-young, President of the Oil Corporation, said, "I hope that COVID-19, which threatens the national economy and public health, will end as soon as possible," and added, "We wanted to help provide masks, protective suits, and medical supplies for local residents and quarantine officials who are working hard to overcome COVID-19 early."
In addition to this donation support, the Oil Corporation conducted a group blood donation this month to supply blood necessary for overcoming COVID-19.
To revitalize the stagnant local economy, the company decided to expedite the execution of related budgets, such as purchasing locally produced goods, as much as possible.
