[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, stated that he would "devote himself to winning the general election and live up to today's intention" in response to the prison letter from former President Park Geun-hye, who called for "unification centered on the major opposition party."
In a statement on the 4th, Hwang said, "It is a letter that deeply conveys the heartfelt concern for the collapsing Republic of Korea despite enduring long hardships in prison."
He added, "It was a message to judge the Moon Jae-in administration centered on the existing major opposition party and to definitely win this general election to stop the tyranny of this incompetent government," and said, "Former President Park's patriotism, asking us to protect this country and its people, deeply moves our hearts."
Hwang said, "The United Future Party has overcome difficult and challenging processes to stand tall as a legitimate conservative liberal democratic party. It has been reborn as a 'big party' gathering all those who love and want to protect free Korea," and added, "We will focus solely on the people and strive toward victory in the general election to fulfill today's intention."
