[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Russia has mandated a 2-week self-quarantine for all arrivals entering Moscow via flights departing from Korea to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to the Korean Embassy in Russia on the 3rd (local time), Russian health authorities are issuing a 2-week self-quarantine order to all passengers arriving from Korea (including Russian nationals) using Terminal F at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. Passengers must sign this order to be allowed entry.

Earlier, at the end of last month, the Russian government restricted flights between Korea and Russia to operate only through Terminal F at Sheremetyevo Airport in northern Moscow, which is equipped with quarantine facilities, and limited the operating airlines to the Russian state-owned Aeroflot and Korean Air. Flights operated by Russian and Korean airlines to the Far East and Siberian regions were suspended.

Furthermore, from the 1st of this month, the Russian government has allowed entry only through Terminal F at Sheremetyevo Airport for all foreigners departing from Korea, including Korean nationals, and banned entry to other regions such as the Far East and Siberia, including Vladivostok.

The Korean Embassy in Russia warned entrants to be cautious, stating, "Violations of the self-quarantine order may result in penalties such as fines or deportation according to Russian laws."

With the strengthening of Russia's entry and quarantine measures, Korean Air has decided to temporarily suspend its Russia routes. Korean Air plans to halt flights on the Moscow?Incheon route for about two months from March 6 to April 25. Passengers who booked tickets for the Moscow?Incheon route during March and April are being offered full refunds or the option to change their tickets to the Paris?Incheon route.
