7 Water Cannon Trucks Mobilized... Special Disinfection and Sterilization on All 388.8km of Roads in the Area... Major and Side Roads Disinfected 1 to 5 Times Weekly... Intensive Disinfection on Confirmed Cases' Movement Routes... Enhanced Road Washing Using 85 Fire Hydrants in the Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is deploying seven water spraying trucks, typically used for street cleaning, to conduct extensive water cleaning and special disinfection along all roads spanning 388.8 km within the district to prevent community spread amid the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases.
The water spraying trucks, previously used for road dust cleaning, will be mobilized to clean and disinfect every corner of main and side roads from at least once a week up to five times a week, tightening measures to block the community spread of infectious diseases.
First, four 6-7 ton water spraying trucks will be used for frequent disinfection on major roads with high foot traffic, while three 3-ton water spraying trucks will be deployed for cleaning and disinfection on secondary main roads and side streets. Additionally, if confirmed cases occur, focused disinfection will be conducted along the identified movement paths of the confirmed patients.
In preparation for the expected sharp increase in water usage due to this special disinfection, the district is cooperating with Seoul City and Yeongdeungpo Fire Station to actively utilize 85 fire hydrants within the area for road water cleaning and disinfection activities.
Alongside this, the district is intensifying disinfection efforts at multi-use facilities with high foot traffic such as department stores, sports centers, and educational institutions, while also temporarily extending the closure of 294 district-operated multi-use facilities until further notice.
Moreover, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il is holding emergency response meetings more than twice daily to proactively respond to the rapidly changing situation, operating a 24-hour emergency system centered on the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
The district health center’s screening clinic has also expanded its specimen testing rooms and added three mobile negative pressure devices to prevent virus spread, actively responding to the COVID-19 situation.
Mayor Chae Hyun-il stated, “In a situation where community infections are spreading nationwide, we are thoroughly re-examining the disinfection system from the ground up,” adding, “We will protect the lives and safety of our residents through proactive prevention and a full-scale public-private response.”
