President Moon's First National Assembly Meeting with Ruling and Opposition Leaders (Update)

Discussion on COVID-19 Response and Current Issues, Call for Bipartisan Cooperation on Supplementary Budget... Opposition Urges Government for Strengthened Measures

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in visited the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 28th and began talks with the leaders of the four ruling and opposition parties. This is the first time since his inauguration that President Moon has arranged a meeting with the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties at the National Assembly.

Before the talks with the party leaders, President Moon met with National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang for a cordial conversation. As views calling for a bipartisan response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continued, an opportunity for the president to visit the National Assembly was arranged.

The meeting is expected to be a broad discussion on various solutions demanded by the opposition parties, such as additional supplementary budget (supplementary budget) discussions related to COVID-19 and the expansion of the ban on Chinese entry. Depending on the outcome of the meeting between President Moon and the party leaders, there is also a possibility of issuing a joint statement urging bipartisan cooperation and national unity in response to COVID-19.

Present at the meeting were President Moon, Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, Yoo Seong-yeop, co-leader of the Minsheng Party, and Shim Sang-jung, leader of the Justice Party.
