[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized the calls on the 28th to ban Chinese entry to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), saying, "If such lockdowns are so good, then just say to lock down Daegu."
In a post on his Facebook that day, Jin said, "Why blame Chinese people who have not been confirmed as infection cases?"
He stated, "'Viruses have no borders'?this is the principle of the EU (European Union)," adding, "Italy locked down Lombardy, and the police and military are blocking roads with guns, preventing residents from leaving and outsiders from entering."
He continued, "Even so, it spread nationwide," and said, "The overwhelming majority of domestic infections occurred in Daegu, and a significant number of infections in other regions were visitors to Daegu."
Jin emphasized, "What the United Future Party and its supporters are doing now is something the EU warns against," adding, "Because it can distort quarantine policies at a critical time."
He then quoted part of a report from the British Guardian. The quote included, "It is a worrying situation, but we must not succumb to panic. We must be cautious of false information, misinformation, and racist remarks. These mislead citizens and cause them to doubt the work of public authorities."
Finally, he said, "I will continue to provide reliable information regarding COVID-19," adding, "False and distorted information causes panic, threatening citizens' health and lives, and also brings enormous financial damage to citizens' lives."
