[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Professor Seokyung Deok of the Department of Liberal Arts at Sungshin Women's University raised his voice in criticism, stating that the weather app 'Yahoo!天?' provided by Yahoo Japan labels Dokdo as Japanese territory.
On the 27th, Professor Seokyung Deok wrote on his Instagram, "Recently, the Japanese government reopened the 'Dokdo Exhibition Hall' in the heart of Tokyo, and the local government of Shimane Prefecture held the 15th anniversary event of 'Takeshima Day,' strengthening offline promotions."
He said, "Recently, people living in Japan reported to me," and revealed, "The popular weather app 'Yahoo!天?' provided by Yahoo Japan was labeling Dokdo as Japanese territory."
He pointed out, "In these apps, a solid line is drawn between Ulleungdo and Dokdo, and Dokdo is labeled as Japanese territory while providing weather information."
According to Professor Seokyung Deok, the 'WNI' app was also confirmed to label Dokdo as Japanese territory.
He emphasized, "It is very concerning that even major Japanese companies are labeling 'Dokdo as Japanese territory,' supporting the Japanese government's groundless claims," adding, "Many foreigners living in Japan also use the Yahoo Japan app."
He added, "I will continue to investigate other countries' representative weather apps and correct any mislabeling," and stated, "We cannot just stand by and watch their distortion."
