[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Moon Chang-gi, chairman of Ediya Coffee, has taken practical support measures at the headquarters level for franchise owners who are struggling due to the domestic demand slump caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 27th, Ediya Coffee announced, "We consider the COVID-19 crisis as an emergency situation and will implement extraordinary measures to share even a little of the pain with our franchise owners."
Ediya Coffee plans to provide support worth about 2 billion KRW, including waiving royalties for all franchise stores nationwide for two months, providing one box of coffee beans free of charge, and continuously supplying quarantine supplies such as disinfectants and masks.
As of 11:55 a.m. on the 27th, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Korea reached 1,595. As consumers increasingly avoid dining out and many food service businesses experience a sharp decline in sales, many franchise headquarters including Lotteria, Angel-in-us, Mom's Touch, and BBQ, along with Ediya, have stepped up to support franchise store damages.
