"Two Korean Nationals Arriving at Weihai Airport, China, Show Fever Symptoms... Passengers Quarantined"

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the afternoon of the 26th, it was confirmed that two Koreans who entered Weihai Airport in Shandong Province, China, showed symptoms of fever.

On the 26th, a Beijing diplomatic source stated, "Among the total 107 arrivals at Weihai Airport at 3 p.m. today, there were three people with fever (two Koreans and one Chinese). All passengers were moved to hotels, and those with fever were taken to hospitals for testing."

Weihai City in Shandong Province has been conducting fever checks on passengers of flights from Korea to Weihai since the previous day. At 10:50 a.m. local time, all 147 passengers (6 Koreans, 141 Chinese) who arrived on Jeju Air flight 7C8054 were quarantined at designated hotels. This was due to three Chinese passengers showing fever symptoms. Whether the Korean passengers who traveled with them will be subject to mandatory quarantine or self-quarantine depends on the COVID-19 test results of the febrile passengers.

The previous day, five passengers showed fever symptoms on a Jeju Air flight to Weihai, resulting in all 163 passengers being quarantined, including 19 Koreans who were isolated at designated hotels in Weihai city. According to Weihai city government policy, the 19 Koreans will self-quarantine at home after returning on the 28th if the five febrile passengers from other countries show no abnormalities. The five febrile passengers from other countries tested negative on that day, and a second test is scheduled for tomorrow.

While Koreans entering Weihai Airport have been subjected to mandatory quarantine continuously, the local government has announced that if there are no febrile passengers among the arrivals, a 14-day self-quarantine will be implemented instead of mandatory quarantine. If there are febrile passengers among the arrivals, the passengers who traveled with them must move to designated hotels, but if the febrile passengers test negative for COVID-19 (after two tests), they will be allowed to return home immediately and self-quarantine.
