GV80 and Others Found Defective... Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Audi Recall 12,460 Vehicles GV80

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that a total of 12,463 vehicles across 26 models manufactured and imported by Hyundai Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz Korea, BMW Korea, Audi Volkswagen Korea, and Hanbul Motors have been found to have manufacturing defects and will be subject to recall measures.

First, 823 units of the GV80 model manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor Company were found to have a defect where the transmission does not operate properly due to a software error in the 'Stop & Go device (ISG)'. This device automatically turns off the engine when the brake is pressed and the vehicle stops, and restarts the engine when the foot is lifted from the brake or the accelerator pedal is pressed, helping to improve fuel efficiency.

These vehicles can receive free repairs starting today at Hyundai Motor Company’s direct service centers and Blue Hands service centers.

Problems were also found in 441 units across 12 models imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea. Among them, 433 units of 6 models including the AMG S 63 4MATIC+ Long were found to have a material defect in the turbocharger oil supply hose, which can melt due to engine heat causing oil leakage, and if the leaked oil contacts high-temperature components in the engine compartment, there is a possibility of fire.

For 4 units of 2 models including the GLE 400 d 4MATIC (not sold), the adjustment and fixation of the third-row seat headrest were not properly done, which could cause injury to passengers. Additionally, 2 units of 2 models including the AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ were found to have a defect where the clip fixing the automatic transmission wiring was improperly installed, potentially damaging or cutting the wiring and causing the transmission to malfunction.

This defect violates automotive safety standards and a fine will be imposed.

The manufacturers will notify vehicle owners of the correction methods via mail and mobile text messages. If vehicle owners have repaired the defects at their own expense before the recall, they can apply for compensation of the repair costs from the manufacturer.
