Gwangju City to Invest 58 Billion Won in Youth Job Projects This Year Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that it will invest 58 billion KRW in 41 projects this year to create about 4,600 youth jobs.

Youth job creation will be promoted across four areas: job-seeking activity support, customized workforce training, experiential jobs, and youth entrepreneurship support.

Detailed projects include ▲9 projects such as transportation cost support for job-seeking youth to enhance entry into the job market through job-seeking activity support ▲10 projects such as regional industry customized job creation support for customized workforce training and employment support ▲16 projects such as the Gwangju Youth Work Experience Dream Project for creating experiential youth jobs ▲6 projects such as discovering and nurturing prospective youth entrepreneurs to establish a virtuous cycle ecosystem for youth entrepreneurship.

First, the plan is to invest the largest amount of 25.3 billion KRW in 16 experiential youth job projects to create 3,436 youth jobs.

90 billion KRW will also be invested in the Gwangju Youth Work Experience Dream Project to connect experiences learned in the workplace to employment, along with the new Gwangju-type Tomorrow Filling Deduction, region-led youth job creation, and regional industry customized job projects.

New projects this year include seven initiatives such as Gwangju Youth Dream Allowance and activity support, Gwangju Youth Financial Welfare Support, customized housing lease deposits, Gwangju-type job customized vocational education support, Youth Tomorrow Internship operation, and establishment of a youth job job cafe startup space to support job-seeking activities, workforce training, and entrepreneurship.

For job-preparing youth, the youth job job cafe and suit rental service, opened last year, will purchase additional rental suits and increase the rental frequency from the existing 3 times to 5 times, reflecting high youth demand.

Additionally, a separate 132㎡ startup space will be operated to enhance the one-stop service effect.

The Gwangju-type job customized vocational education, promoted jointly by the city and the city education office mainly in the automobile-related field, is a project where vocational high schools and nine leading Gwangju-type job companies participate to train customized personnel, expected to help youth interested in employment at Global Motors in the future.

Along with this, a ‘Youth Job Discovery Task Force (TF)’ involving experts from various fields will be formed to gather diverse opinions, increase youth job awareness, and expand and discover youth-centered job projects such as workforce training projects for the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Park Nam-eon, Director of the City’s Job Economy Office, said, “In a situation where the local economy is struggling due to the spread of COVID-19, we will do our best to quickly stabilize regionally customized job projects and region-led job projects, which are direct job projects linked with government projects, so that youth can settle in the region and help resolve companies’ manpower shortages.”
