Gwangju Dong-gu Forms Dedicated Team to Manage Foreign Students Amid COVID-19

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 26th that, as the COVID-19 crisis alert level was raised to the highest level, 'Severe,' it has established a joint response system through industry-academic cooperation with Chosun University and Chosun National University of Science and Technology, and will make every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the local community by managing the roles of foreign students.

First, each university decided to secure separate facilities such as dormitories at Chosun University to manage all Chinese students, while Dong-gu will manage foreign students from countries other than China, dividing the roles accordingly.

Dong-gu has formed a dedicated management team for Vietnamese and Nepalese students and will begin monitoring for 14 days.

For newly arrived foreign students, Dong-gu provides a self-made 'COVID-19 Prevention Package (consisting of 20 masks, hand sanitizer, thermometer, multilingual guide, etc.)' through home visits and conducts monitoring via SNS and 1 to 2 phone calls daily for 14 days.

If symptoms are self-checked during monitoring and a student is identified as symptomatic, the information will be immediately reported to the Chosun University screening clinic and the public health center emergency quarantine task force for prompt follow-up management.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “We will work closely with local universities to prepare for the arrival of foreign students and make every effort to block the spread of infectious diseases in the local community.”

Meanwhile, on the 18th, Dong-gu deployed the emergency quarantine task force to disinfect the interior and exterior of dormitories at Chosun University and Chosun National University of Science and Technology, and since the 24th, it has been operating a '24-hour call center,' making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
