Nanomedics Accelerates Development of Graphene-Based Secondary Batteries... Payment Received for Capital Increase from China FC New Energy

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Nanomedics is set to actively develop next-generation batteries applying graphene materials.

Nanomedics announced on the 26th that it has invested 40 million yuan (6.77 billion KRW) in the Chinese secondary battery specialist company 'Jiangsu Fengcheng New Energy Power Technology (FC New Energy)'. Nanomedics acquired a 28.57% stake in FC New Energy, securing the position of the second largest shareholder.

With the investment payment, it is expected that FC New Energy, Standard Graphene, and Nanomedics will gain momentum in producing large batteries for electric vehicles using graphene.

FC New Energy is one of the companies with the highest level of technology in the secondary battery industry in China. Recently, it has been conducting joint development research with Korean companies to develop 6th generation and next-generation cells of 320wh/kg and 400wh/kg.

Secondary batteries applying graphene as an anode material are known to increase battery cell capacity more than three times compared to conventional graphite anodes. This is why the business value of large batteries for electric vehicles using graphene is expected to be significant.

A Nanomedics official said, "FC New Energy is a company equipped with not only secondary battery-related technology but also mass production capabilities, and we expect synergy in the next-generation battery development business." He added, "FC New Energy is currently in investment discussions for expansion with prominent companies such as Thailand's CP Group and BAIC, a subsidiary of China Beijing Automotive Group, which owns Asia's largest electric vehicle dedicated factory. We will create meaningful results such as expanding the scope of cooperation."

Last year, FC New Energy developed the 5th generation polymer cell ‘260wh/kg (55Ah)’ polymer battery, passed China’s ‘National Compulsory Inspection Certification’, and registered with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. At the end of last year, FC New Energy began research for developing graphene-applied batteries by receiving graphene supply from Standard Graphene and collaborating with Yexin New Energy Co., Ltd., an electric vehicle battery manufacturer under Zhongxin Group.
