Gangnam-gu, Dong Community Centers' Old Restrooms Remodeling

1.16 Billion KRW Invested for Replacement of Aging Machinery and Piping... Installation of Convenience Facilities such as Baby Shelter and Powder Room

Gangnam-gu, Dong Community Centers' Old Restrooms Remodeling

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) is launching a full-scale improvement project starting at the end of this month by selecting architects to transform the old restrooms in 10 community service centers into clean and dignified spaces by the end of the year.

Following last year's "Visiting Community Service Center Space Improvement" project, which remodeled complaint and administrative workspaces into resident-friendly spaces, the district will improve restrooms in community centers that have been in place for over 20 years into bright and beautiful healing spaces.

The district will invest 1.16 billion KRW to replace old mechanical equipment and plumbing in the restrooms and carry out customized interior construction reflecting the characteristics of each district.

Additionally, family-friendly restrooms will be created by expanding various convenience facilities such as baby rest areas (nursing rooms) accessible to both men and women, toddler toilet seats, and powder rooms.

In the first half of the year, the project will be conducted in five districts including Nonhyeon 2-dong, Cheongdam-dong, Irwonbon-dong, Irwon 1-dong, and Suseo-dong community centers. In the second half, five more districts will be added after assessing the degree of aging, number of complaints, and on-site inspections.

Lee Su-jin, Director of the Resident Autonomy Division, said, "Restrooms are healing spaces where people can take a brief rest in their busy daily lives," adding, "We will establish a new model representing public restrooms by creating restrooms filled with relaxation and consideration."
