Dongjak-gu Strengthens Management of COVID-19 Infection Blind Spots

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is strengthening management of blind spots in local infection as community transmission of COVID-19 rapidly increases.

First, on the 21st, the district completed disinfection and sterilization of the basement floors 2-3, ground floors 4-7, and elevators of the Shincheonji Jesus Church Yeongdeungpo Church (2 Yeouidaebang-ro, Dongjak-gu).

The Yeongdeungpo Church has been closed entirely, including the worship hall, since 4 p.m. on the 18th.

Also, from the 17th to the 18th, the district conducted a full survey of workers at home long-term care institutions and other facilities. Workers at facilities caring for the elderly perform face-to-face duties with vulnerable elderly populations such as home care and home bathing, thus posing a high risk of infection transmission.

The survey targeted a total of 2,960 workers at 114 facilities, including ▲79 home long-term care institutions ▲9 free meal service providers ▲10 elderly care facilities ▲14 day care centers ▲2 customized care service institutions.

The district checked travel history to China and whether workers were excluded from duties via visits, fax, email, or phone calls. Workers who had traveled abroad were excluded from work or placed under self-quarantine and suspension of volunteer activities, and were allowed to return to work only after symptom confirmation at health centers.

▲ Immediate reporting of any unusual cases ▲ Worker education on response guidelines ▲ For elderly medical welfare facilities (nursing homes), visitation, outings, and overnight stays were prohibited.

Finally, to minimize inconvenience to residents, the district maintained limited operation principles according to the characteristics of public facilities but decided to expand temporary closures until the situation ends, prioritizing residents' health and safety.

▲ A total of 195 facilities including 139 senior centers and 168 welfare facilities ▲ 9 sports and cultural facilities ▲ 18 community shared facilities including autonomous community centers are subject to this.

Along with this, 55 facilities including ▲ 8 Dongjak-gu public libraries ▲ 3 facilities for the disabled ▲ 27 children's facilities ▲ 2 youth facilities ▲ 4 health facilities will operate with restrictions, and 219 daycare centers will allow voluntary attendance of enrolled children.

Detailed operational status by facility can be checked on the district website. As the COVID-19 situation progresses, the district plans to inform residents about the normal operation status of these facilities through various media such as ▲ district website ▲ newsletters ▲ SNS ▲ text messages ▲ press releases.

Changwoo Lee, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “To prevent community transmission of COVID-19, residents’ cooperation, including self-quarantine, is more necessary than ever,” and added, “We will do our utmost to strengthen management of blind spots in local infection.”
