[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Ministry of Education announced on the 21st that it will expand the existing response organization, which was led by the Vice Minister, to the 'COVID-19 Ministry of Education Countermeasures Headquarters,' headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye, to strengthen quarantine management against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Kim Kyu-tae, Director of Higher Education Policy at the Ministry of Education, held a briefing at the Government Seoul Office on the 21st and stated, "This decision was made due to the increase in confirmed cases in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions."
Within the Countermeasures Headquarters, the Elementary, Middle, and High School Countermeasures Team will adjust academic schedules such as school disinfection and closures in preparation for the new semester and support prevention and response efforts by metropolitan and provincial offices of education. The University and International Student Countermeasures Team will establish measures for university quarantine and support for international students entering from China.
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, "We will do our best to prepare thoroughly by blocking all possible infections within schools in advance through strict quarantine measures."
