'Gyeongui-Jungang Line' Resumes Operation After Restoration Work... Chain Delays Are Inevitable

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The northbound train on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, which had been suspended due to an electric power supply line issue, has resumed operation after restoration work was completed. However, chain delays are expected to be unavoidable for the time being due to the aftermath of the disruption.

Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) stated, "The overhead wire failure on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line that occurred around 7 a.m. on the 21st was fully restored by 11 a.m., and train operations have resumed. However, chain delays for electric trains are inevitable for the time being due to the impact of the disruption."

The disruption occurred when a large truck passed through the unmanned Nambu railroad crossing between Seobinggo and Ichon stations with its cargo bed cover open, making contact with the overhead wire and causing a power outage.

As a result of this accident, bidirectional electric train operations between Yongsan Station and Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line were also sequentially suspended.

The Gangneung Line KTX, which departs from Seoul Station and travels to Gangneung, experienced partial service suspension but is currently operating normally.

Korail apologized deeply for the inconvenience caused to metropolitan subway users and emphasized, "We will do our best to restore train schedules and ensure safe train operations."
