[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The first death of a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has occurred in South Korea.
On the 20th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced, "A man in his 60s (born in 1957) who was hospitalized at Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, died the day before," and added, "The immediate response team conducted a full investigation of the psychiatric ward today and performed COVID-19 diagnostic tests, including on the deceased, who tested positive."
This is the first death of a confirmed COVID-19 patient in South Korea. The health authorities are investigating the exact cause of death. As of 4 p.m. on the same day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country increased to 104, up by 22 from 82 at 9 a.m. At Daenam Hospital, 13 additional confirmed cases were reported, including the deceased.
