Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Jangseong Policy Implementation Association Preparatory Committee Urges Withdrawal of Single Nomination

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Preparatory Committee of the Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong Policy Implementation Council and some residents of Yeonggwang County have demanded the withdrawal of the single nomination of Assemblyman Lee Gae-ho and the change to a primary election area.

At a press conference held on the 20th, they stated, “Assemblyman Lee Gae-ho, as an incumbent for the past six years, has caused numerous nomination controversies, alienating public sentiment and forming factions within the constituency,” adding, “His qualifications as a member of the National Assembly are significantly lacking, such as omitting the declaration of buildings on land during public officials’ asset reporting.”

They continued, “We expected the party to make a strict judgment in this nomination, but the Democratic Party coldly dashed our hopes,” emphasizing, “On the 3rd, a member of the Jangseong County Council who supports candidate Lee Gae-ho distorted the public opinion poll by illegally requesting ‘to make it for people in their 20s’ during the Democratic Party’s candidate suitability survey.”

They also pointed out, “Despite the presence of competitive preliminary candidates, not even providing the opportunity for a primary election, which should be guaranteed as a democratic party, has undermined the credibility of the Democratic Party,” and added, “This is an act that deprives party members of the right to verify and choose candidates.”

They concluded by strongly urging, “We strongly urge the withdrawal of the single nomination of candidate Lee Gae-ho and the conduct of a primary election.”
