Jeonnam Province Conducts 'Comprehensive Inspection' at Road Corporation Sites

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 20th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of 36 road construction sites starting at the end of this month.

To inspect local roads and delegated national roads scattered across 12 cities and counties, Jeonnam Province plans to form and operate a special inspection team by mobilizing a total of 14 employees from the Jeonnam Provincial Road Management Office and 7 members from the Construction Project Management Group, along with other construction-related personnel.

This comprehensive inspection aims to detect elements of poor construction quality on-site in advance, promote road quality improvement through sound construction, and overcome the anticipated regional economic downturn caused by the recent spread of COVID-19 infections.

The goal is for the client, construction project management group, and contractors to work as a trinity to lay the foundation for achieving the first half-year target fiscal execution rate of 85%.

Notably, under the leadership of the construction manager belonging to the client agency, cross-inspections at sites by responsible construction engineers will be conducted to break away from lenient inspections based on personal relationships and to encourage the diverse technical know-how of responsible construction engineers to be established across all sites.

Jeong Gwon-su, head of the Jeonnam Provincial Road Management Office, stated, “This comprehensive inspection is not merely to prevent poor construction but aims to reduce the burden on contractors from rework costs and sanctions due to poor construction,” adding, “We will strengthen the technical skills of local contractors to enhance their competitiveness.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province had planned to invite civil engineering experts last month to provide on-site poor construction prevention training for personnel involved in client-ordered construction sites at the Road Management Office, but the plan was canceled due to the spread of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Once the spread of infections stabilizes, training to prevent poor construction will be conducted for construction personnel based on the inspection results.
