[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 20th that it held the ‘Population Increase Measures Promotion Committee’ at the county office on the 19th to address the population issues it faces, such as low birthrate, aging population, and population decline.
The committee meeting was attended by 10 committee members and heads of departments related to population increase, who reviewed the appropriateness of the population policy project plans and conducted evaluations of last year’s population increase qualitative assessments for towns and townships.
The attending members reviewed project plans related to establishing the development direction and vision of population policies, developing region-tailored population policies, and organizing the population policy implementation system to promote population inflow, which is a growth engine for the region.
They also brainstormed efficient measures for practical population growth, such as statistical management of vacant houses and active guidance for those wishing to return to farming or rural areas.
To proactively respond to the crisis of population decline, the county plans to implement systematic and comprehensive customized population policies, including forming new population inflow trends, supporting youth independence, childbirth, and childcare, creating Damyang-style tailored jobs, improving residential conditions, and revitalizing the local community.
A county official stated, “This year, we will strive to discover Damyang’s unique region-tailored population policies and transform into a competitive city, a city good for raising children, and a city where everyone wants to live.”
