Hwasun-gun Enrolls in 'Citizen Life Safety Insurance' for 2 Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) has enrolled in the ‘County Residents’ Life Safety Insurance,’ which allows any county resident who suffers death or aftereffects from various accidents, disasters, or crimes to receive insurance benefits.

According to the county on the 20th, following last year, the entire county population has been enrolled in life safety insurance for the second consecutive year (insurance company: Korea Local Finance Mutual Aid Association).

This year, three additional coverages, including death by drowning and agricultural machinery accidents, have been added to expand benefits for county residents.

The ‘County Residents’ Life Safety Insurance,’ a pledge of the 7th local government administration, is one of the county residents’ life stabilization policies where the local government fully covers the insurance premiums and all residents receive benefits.

It is a system where residents can receive compensation up to 15 million KRW from the insurance company if they suffer damage due to unexpected disasters or accidents during daily life.

The county expects this to contribute to improving the quality of life by expanding the social safety net for vulnerable groups and the elderly who are in the ‘insurance blind spots’ due to economic difficulties.

The coverage period is from January 1st of this year to January 31st of next year.

Any county resident registered in the county (including foreigners) is automatically enrolled in the insurance regardless of age, gender, occupation, or medical history, without any separate contract, signature, or procedure.

New residents during the coverage period are also automatically enrolled, and overlapping compensation is possible regardless of other insurance subscriptions.

However, death coverage for residents under 15 years old is excluded.

This year’s coverage includes 14 types: ▲death by natural disaster injury (including heatstroke, sunstroke, hypothermia) ▲death by explosion, fire, or collapse injury ▲aftereffects of explosion, fire, or collapse injury ▲death by injury while using public transportation ▲aftereffects of injury while using public transportation ▲death by injury from robbery ▲aftereffects of injury from robbery ▲legal cost support for medical accidents ▲daily allowance for youth abduction, kidnapping, or hostage situations ▲treatment costs for school zone traffic accident injuries ▲support fund for finding missing children ▲death by drowning accident ▲death by agricultural machinery accident injury ▲aftereffects of agricultural machinery accident injury.

County residents who suffer damage from an accident can claim insurance by submitting an insurance claim form, a copy of their ID, a copy of their bankbook, and documents verifying the accident details to the Korea Local Finance Mutual Aid Association within three years from the date of the accident.

Governor Gu Chung-gon said, “Protecting and supporting county residents who suffer damage from unexpected accidents and disasters in daily life is the duty of local governments and an essential safety policy. We will continue to promote policies that contribute to the safety and life stability of county residents to create a happier community together.”
