'Doksan-dong Peach Village' Lifts Housing Reconstruction, Initiates Managed Residential Environment Improvement

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Boksunga Village in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, which was removed from the housing reconstruction maintenance planned area, is set to fully launch a managed residential environment improvement project.

On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the 2nd Urban Planning Committee meeting and announced that the plan for the managed residential environment improvement project and the designation of the maintenance area for Boksunga Village, covering 35,308㎡ around 147-20, Doksan 1-dong, Geumcheon-gu, was 'conditionally approved.'

This area was removed from the Doksan 4 and 5 housing reconstruction maintenance planned area in October 2015. More than 67% of the houses are over 20 years old, and the buildings are aging with inadequate safety facilities, making it a region in need of infrastructure maintenance and expansion as well as housing improvement. The city established and designated this area as a managed residential environment improvement project zone to preserve the residential characteristics centered on detached houses, improve the living environment through resident participation, and carry out infrastructure maintenance, expansion of shared facilities, and preservation, maintenance, and improvement of the residential environment.

Since the maintenance plan was approved on the condition that it be linked with plans for surrounding areas, Seoul expects the managed residential environment improvement project to proceed in earnest. According to the maintenance plan, 13 projects in three categories reflecting the characteristics of Boksunga Village will be promoted, including street improvement projects, infrastructure maintenance such as safety facility improvements and new installations, creating a happy Boksunga Village where neighbors communicate and harmonize, and establishing shared facilities for residents.

This maintenance project plans to complete basic and detailed designs this year and finish construction between 2020 and 2021. A Seoul city official stated, "We will support the activation of individual old house repairs through the Gakkum Housing Project and housing improvement cost loan projects."
