From the 4th to the 14th of next month at Namsan Arts Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's Namsan Arts Center will present 'Searchlight,' sharing the production process of unfinished performances, from July 4 to 14.
'Searchlight' is a creative support program that Namsan Arts Center has been conducting since 2017, sharing all stages of creation with the audience, from the research phase of finding ideas to staging the work.
Works discovered through 'Searchlight' seek potential for development into official performances through various experimental and challenging stages such as showcases, reading performances, public discussions, and workshops. From January 8 to 19, a total of 95 entries were received for the 'Searchlight' call, and finally, seven works were selected, including four showcases and three research projects. Additionally, one reading performance planned by Namsan Arts Center was added, making a total of eight works to be presented through 'Searchlight' next month.
The four showcases are ▲'@GODBLOG (Gatblog),' which explores various facets of Korean society under the premise that God writes a blog ▲'I Scratched My Knee but My Armpit Itched,' which expresses everyday uncertainties and fantasies through the unique stage language of the 극단 특유 (극단 Teukyu) troupe ▲'Jeon, Danji' (showcase), which challenges new stage experiments using 3D sound technology ▲and 'Manghal Theater,' which moves around the theater to examine various issues surrounding the Drama Center.
▲'Jaejuneun Gomi Burigo' (The Bear Does the Trick), which contemplates the bear showing off talents in society through circus ▲'Future Monument Exploration Team,' which explores ways to remember the May 18 Democratic Uprising ▲and 'Invitation After a Hundred Years ? Korea’s First Female Playwright Kim Myung-soon,' which highlights Korea’s first female playwright Kim Myung-soon and her works, are presented as research projects.
One reading performance is 'The God of Mechanical Devices,' a work that depicts concerns about theater and the anxieties of the younger generation with the lively sensitivity of a young playwright.
'Searchlight' is open to individuals or groups preparing new works regardless of genre, form, or age. Selected works receive support including theater and stage technology, auxiliary equipment, rehearsal rooms, and a certain amount of production funding. Performances participating in 'Searchlight' can be reserved for free through the Namsan Arts Center website. All performances start at 7:30 p.m. and are suitable for viewers aged middle school and above.
