[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam National University Hospital announced on the 19th that two COVID-19 confirmed patients treated in the nationally designated negative pressure isolation ward have been discharged.
The patients discharged that day were patient number 16, the first confirmed case in the Gwangju and Jeonnam region, and his daughter, patient number 18.
Patient number 16 was confirmed positive after visiting Thailand and was admitted to the negative pressure isolation ward on the 3rd due to related symptoms. Patient number 18 was quarantined on the 5th.
They were declared fully recovered after 16 and 14 days of isolation, respectively, and were able to leave the hospital.
Jeonnam National University Hospital administered antiviral treatment to the two patients, and as the treatment was effective, their symptoms disappeared. They tested negative in two consecutive RT-PCR tests conducted 24 hours apart, leading to the decision to discharge them.
As a result, there are no confirmed patients currently being treated in the nationally designated negative pressure ward at Jeonnam National University Hospital.
The medical staff at Jeonnam National University Hospital gave warm applause and encouragement to the patients leaving the negative pressure isolation ward that day, celebrating their full recovery.
Patient number 16 reportedly said, “I sincerely thank the professors and nurses who did their best to treat me despite the difficult conditions.”
Meanwhile, Jeonnam National University Hospital has been operating a new response team since the 27th of last month, and is making every effort to prevent and control infections within the hospital by installing a screening clinic equipped with negative pressure facilities, controlling entrances, deploying surveillance personnel, and installing fever detectors.
