Public Shopping Completes Sale of 150,000 Masks Through Guerrilla Broadcast

Scheduled to Broadcast Daily Once Mask and Hand Sanitizer Products Are Secured

Public Shopping Completes Sale of 150,000 Masks Through Guerrilla Broadcast

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Public Shopping announced on the 19th that 150,000 masks (5,000 sets) were sold out during a guerrilla broadcast. Public Shopping plans to conduct additional broadcasts daily as soon as masks and hand sanitizers are secured.

The 'Newnepure KF94 Yellow Dust Protection Mask' broadcasted that day was urgently scheduled to stabilize supply amid the rapidly increasing demand due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The price was set at 830 KRW per mask (24,900 KRW for a set of 30), cheaper than the market price, including only basic expenses such as shipping.

The masks were sold in a guerrilla format without prior notice, and orders were accepted only via ARS phone and consultation calls to accommodate the older customer base aged 50 to 60 and above. To allow as many customers as possible to purchase, the quantity was limited to one set per household. By age group, customers aged 40 and above accounted for 77% of total purchases. Specifically, 30s made up 16%, 40s 37%, and 50s 26%, showing balanced purchases across all age groups.

On the 17th, Public Shopping sold 20,000 units (4,000 sets) of 'Jumpree Hand Sanitizer' through a guerrilla broadcast, which sold out in 14 minutes, with about 70% of buyers aged 50 and above. A Public Shopping official stated, "We are preparing to conduct daily sales broadcasts as soon as masks and hand sanitizers, essential items for the health and safety of the public, are secured," adding, "We will do our best to stabilize the prices of masks and hand sanitizers, which are experiencing shortages amid the COVID-19 crisis."
