[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seong-yeol] Professional soccer K League 1 FC Seoul secured a victory over Melbourne Victory thanks to Park Ju-young's winning goal.
FC Seoul, led by head coach Choi Yong-soo, won 1-0 in the first match of Group E in the AFC Champions League (ACL) group stage against Australia's Melbourne Victory at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 18th at 7:30 PM.
With this win, Seoul rose to first place in Group E.
Seoul recorded the first victory among K League teams participating in the ACL. Previously, Ulsan Hyundai drew with Japan's J League FC Tokyo, and Jeonbuk Hyundai lost to Yokohama Marinos.
In the 8th minute of the first half, Kim Ju-seong delivered a cross from the left flank, which Park Dong-jin deflected, and Park Ju-young rushed in to connect with a left-footed non-stop shot, scoring the opening goal.
After scoring the early opening goal, Seoul chose a strategy focused on defense to maintain their lead.
At the 35th minute of the first half, Park Dong-jin's shot went wide following Osmar's through pass, and in the 39th minute of the second half, Han Chan-hee's right-footed mid-range shot hit Melbourne's goalpost, narrowly missing scoring opportunities.
