Daejeon City to Supply 1,566 Electric Vehicles This Year at 15.2 Million KRW Each

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 19th that it will supply a total of 1,566 electric vehicles this year through its electric vehicle distribution (support) project, an increase of 25% compared to the previous year.

The subsidy is up to 15.2 million KRW per electric vehicle and varies by vehicle model. This year, the maximum national subsidy increased from 6.05 million KRW last year to 8.2 million KRW. In addition, the city plans to provide a uniform subsidy of 7 million KRW.

Twenty percent of the electric vehicle supply volume will be prioritized for vulnerable groups, families with multiple children, taxis, and buyers replacing old diesel vehicles. If there are remaining units in the prioritized allocation by the end of September, they will be combined with the general allocation for support.

Also, when households below the lower-income bracket purchase an electric vehicle, an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount will be provided within a maximum of 9 million KRW.

Subsidies can be received by visiting the sales office of the electric vehicle manufacturer, signing a vehicle purchase contract, and applying through the sales office.

Eligibility requires citizens or corporations/public institutions with an address in Daejeon for at least six months prior to the announcement date. Citizens who have received electric vehicle subsidies within two years and research institutions purchasing electric vehicles for testing or research purposes are excluded from eligibility.

The supply vehicle models include 33 types from 14 companies that meet the regulations on electric vehicle supply target evaluation recognized and announced by the Ministry of Environment, with national subsidies applied differently depending on the model.

The application period is from the 24th of this month to December 18th, and the project may end early if the budget is exhausted.

For more details, refer to the announcement on the city’s website or contact the Daejeon City Hall Fine Dust Response Division or the sales offices of each electric vehicle manufacturer.

Choi Jeong-hee, head of the Fine Dust Response Division of the city, said, “We hope for active interest and participation from local citizens in the electric vehicle support project.”
