Hot Potato in Seo-gu: 'Dancing Ordinance Repeal Proposal' Rejected

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The handling of the “Ordinance on the Operation of General Restaurants Where Dancing in the Audience Seats is Permitted,” which became a hot issue following the collapse of a club in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City last July that resulted in 34 casualties, has been delayed once again.

According to the Seo-gu Council of Gwangju on the 18th, the proposal to abolish the “dance permission” ordinance, which was submitted to the first plenary session of the 282nd extraordinary meeting that day, was rejected by a vote of 4 to 2.

Until now, except for the club where the collapse accident occurred last year, the “dance permission” ordinance benefits only one place, raising suspicions of special favors and increasing calls for its abolition.

In response, Councilor Kim Taejin proposed a bill to abolish this ordinance as the representative, but it was rejected.

It is known that there is a position that careful consideration is needed because if the ordinance is abolished, the business in question is likely to file a substantial administrative lawsuit against the autonomous district.

Due to this rejection, the handling of the “dance permission” ordinance has been postponed until as early as May.

The executive branch is reportedly planning to collect various opinions and submit a new amendment.

A Seo-gu council member said, “Is it reasonable that we cannot correct mistakes because we are afraid of administrative lawsuits?” and added, “I think abolishing the ordinance is the best way for the safety of citizens.”
