Woo Gijong Preliminary Candidate, Post-Punishment Regulations Are Not an Appropriate Attitude for the Ruling Party

"I will participate in the primary for the Democratic Party's victory even if an unfair primary is conducted"

Woo Gijong Preliminary Candidate, Post-Punishment Regulations Are Not an Appropriate Attitude for the Ruling Party Woo Gi-jong, the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate for Mokpo, is holding an emergency press conference on the 13th.

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Seo Young-seo] Woo Gi-jong, the Democratic Party Mokpo preliminary candidate, held an emergency press conference on the 13th and stated that the disciplinary action for ‘excessive inquiry of party members’ by the Democratic Party Central Committee is an attempt to undermine Lee Nak-yeon, and he will participate in the primary election until the end.

Candidate Woo Gi-jong argued against the Central Committee’s decision, saying, “If it was that important, the punishment details should have been finalized and notified from the beginning, so it is hard to accept.”

Candidate Woo said, “If the inquiry screen had been blocked so that the number of party member inquiries could not exceed 50 times, it would have been a simple matter to resolve,” and added, “Post-punishment regulations are not an attitude to be taken by the ruling party of a country governed by the rule of law.”

He continued, “Expanding the scope of punishment to deduct 15% of the primary election results does not comply with the principle of non-retroactivity of penalties,” and “It is evading duty and responsibility to place all the blame on the preliminary candidate despite the party’s significant fault.”

Furthermore, Candidate Woo stated, “Even if an unfair primary election proceeds due to excessive punishment of a 10% addition for political newcomer candidates and a 15% deduction for me, I will participate in the primary for the victory of the Democratic Party.”

He emphasized, “I urge strict disciplinary action from the party to establish strict discipline against candidates who distorted the simple fact of excessive inquiries as illegal leaks and deceived Democratic Party members in Mokpo City,” and “In the future, I will not hesitate to respond not only under election law but also civil and criminal law against baseless black propaganda.”

Candidate Woo also announced, “As a protest until the party’s fairness and strict discipline are concretely demonstrated, I will close the current election office and hold the election at a tent office by choosing an appropriate location.”
