Seoul National University of Science and Technology Supports Establishment of Cybersecurity Department at National University of Engineering, Peru

Cooperation for Enhancing University Competence and Securing Self-Reliance Foundations ... Community Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul National University of Science and Technology announced on the 14th that it will establish a Department of Cybersecurity at the Universidad Nacional de Ingenier?a (UNI) in Peru as part of the Ministry of Education's '2020 Leading International Cooperation University Project' and take charge of community education programs such as vocational training.

The Leading International Cooperation University Project is a program that supports the establishment of necessary departments and community development programs at universities in developing countries by utilizing the resources and capabilities of domestic universities. It helps enhance the capabilities and secure self-reliance foundations of universities in developing countries designated by the OECD DAC (Development Assistance Committee), including 24 priority partner countries under the Framework Act on International Development Cooperation.

SeoulTech plans to collaborate with the Embassy of Peru in Korea to open a five-year department for 50 undergraduate freshmen and 15 teachers and instructors at the Universidad Nacional de Ingenier?a, a national engineering university located in Lima, Peru. Based on SeoulTech’s Computer Engineering Department and the cybersecurity-related departments within the Makers College, it will support the development of cybersecurity education programs and lecture materials, and dispatch excellent faculty members to the local site for this purpose.

Kim Sun-min, Vice President for Research Planning at SeoulTech, said, "We will make further efforts to enhance the role and expertise of the university through the Leading International Cooperation University Project," and added, "We will also strive to strengthen exchanges with universities in the Latin American region through cooperation with the Embassy of Peru in Korea."
