According to the Japan Meteorological Agency on the 13th, an earthquake estimated to have a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale occurred at around 7:34 PM at 44.7 degrees north latitude and 148.9 degrees east longitude. The focal depth was approximately 160 km.
This earthquake caused seismic intensity 4 shaking to be observed in the central and southern parts of the Kushiro region and the northern and central parts of the Nemuro region.
Seismic intensity is an index that indicates the relative strength of shaking caused by an earthquake. Intensity 4 means most people are startled, and objects hanging from the ceiling such as lights shake significantly or unstable objects fall over.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that there is no concern about a tsunami caused by this earthquake.
