Eunpyeong-gu Closes Public Facilities to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has closed six educational facilities including the Lifelong Learning Center, 13 cultural facilities including the Eunpyeong Life Culture Center, eight facilities including the Eunpyeong Community Sports Center, welfare facilities for the disabled, indoor swimming pools, public soccer fields, and libraries as infection prevention measures following confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus.

According to the district on the 10th, programs currently underway have been suspended following the closure of community centers in 16 neighborhoods since the 5th. From the 8th, the use and rental of public sports facilities in Eunpyeong-gu, including indoor swimming pools, indoor gyms, and futsal fields, have been temporarily suspended. Eight public libraries and the Eunpyeong History Hanok Museum have been temporarily closed from the 10th to the 29th, and previously planned exhibitions have also been postponed.

Additionally, considering the health of vulnerable groups such as youth and the elderly who are susceptible to viral infections, educational facilities including the Youth Education Center and Lifelong Learning Center have also been temporarily closed. Continuous disinfection activities are being carried out at senior centers and daycare centers, and hand sanitizers are being provided to fully prevent infectious diseases.

Furthermore, programs at community centers operating in 16 neighborhoods are also suspended, and three comprehensive social welfare centers in the district will be closed and suspend classes from the 10th to the 14th.

Along with this, to minimize inconvenience to vulnerable elderly residents caused by the suspension of senior meal services at welfare centers, alternative meals (lunch boxes) are being distributed as part of thorough countermeasures.

The district will send notification messages and respond diligently to civil complaints to ensure that participants do not experience inconvenience due to the temporary suspension of classes. During the closure period, disinfection, facility inspections, and environmental improvements will be carried out to ensure residents can use the facilities in a pleasant environment.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “To completely block the spread of damage caused by the novel coronavirus infection, we have inevitably temporarily suspended or shortened the operation of multi-use facilities, programs, and events. We will devote all efforts to preventing the spread of the infection until the situation is resolved so that residents can live with peace of mind as soon as possible.”

Educational, cultural, and sports facilities, excluding welfare facilities, are scheduled to remain closed until the 29th, but this may change depending on the spread of the coronavirus.
