Positive Response to Nowon-gu Women's Nighttime Safety App 'Ansim-i' Service

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the personal safety app ‘Ansim-i,’ which protects vulnerable groups such as women on nighttime streets, is receiving great response.

‘Ansim-i’ is a system that links a smartphone app to the local CCTV control center, supporting users to overcome crises through real-time monitoring and response measures such as dispatching 112 emergency services in case of emergencies.

The main functions are broadly divided into ‘Emergency Report,’ ‘Safe Return Monitoring,’ and ‘Safe Return Scout.’

First, the ‘Emergency Report’ function allows users to launch the app and press the emergency report button or shake the smartphone vigorously in an emergency, which automatically reports to the local control center.

The control center immediately monitors the CCTV around the reporter and provides police dispatch services if necessary.

‘Safe Return Monitoring’ allows users to enter their departure and destination in the app when returning home late at night, and the start and arrival information is sent to a guardian designated by the applicant.

Also, if the travel route changes, an automatic call is made to reconfirm the applicant’s safety.

‘Safe Return Scout’ provides an accompaniment service by a local safe scout member who meets the applicant when requested via the app or phone (☎2116-3742 or 120) up to 30 minutes before arriving at a subway station or bus stop on the way home late at night.

The service hours are from 10 p.m. to midnight on Mondays, and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. the next day on other weekdays.

Additionally, through safe facility information, users can identify locations of safe delivery, security CCTV, police substations, and also receive information on responses to gender-based violence.

To support this, the district assigned two dedicated CCTV control operators for Ansim-i, and also assigned Ansim-i support duties to 16 existing CCTV control operators and four police officers dispatched from Nowon Police Station.

Residents who wish to use the service can search for ‘Ansim-i’ in the smartphone app store or Play Store and download the app. After installation, they can easily register by phone verification or logging in with a Kakao account.

Currently, Nowon-gu uses 1,990 CCTVs installed around schools, school routes, and parks in the area for 24/7 real-time monitoring to prepare for various incidents and accidents.

Notably, at around 1:30 a.m. on January 30, the CCTV control center captured a drug transaction scene. The situation was immediately reported to the police officer stationed at the center, resulting in the arrest of the drug buyer Hwang (23, unemployed) and the Indian seller (43, chef) on the spot.

Since the launch of the Ansim-i service in October 2018 until the end of last month, 3,086 residents have registered as members, with 225 emergency reports, 651 safe return monitoring cases, and 57 safe return scout services used.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “The implementation of the personal safety app Ansim-i, which protects people during late-night hours, will contribute to crime prevention and strengthening the local safety network,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to make Nowon-gu a place where residents can feel safe.”
