Gurye-gun Begins Full-Scale Harvesting of Jirisan and Baegunsan Gorosoe with Immunity, Diabetes, and Hypertension Benefits

Gorosoe sap is called Golisoo (骨利水) because it is beneficial for bones. It contains 40 times more calcium and 30 times more magnesium than regular drinking water and is rich in natural minerals. It is known to have excellent effects in preventing adult diseases such as arthritis, neuralgia, diabetes, and hypertension, as well as enhancing immunity.

Gurye's Gorosoe sap is harvested from thick Gorosoe trees growing in valleys at altitudes above 600 meters, resulting in high sugar content and abundant mineral components. Especially, Gorosoe sap collected from Jirisan, where there is a large temperature difference between day and night, is fresh and has a good umami taste.

Recognized for its excellence, it is said that Gorosoe sap has been harvested in the Gurye area since the Three Kingdoms period. Although many regions now produce Gorosoe sap, only some areas such as Jirisan and Baegunsan produced it 30 years ago.

It is recommended to drink Gorosoe sap in large quantities within a short time while sweating in an ondol room or a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna). To drink a lot of Gorosoe sap, it is good to eat it with salty foods like dried pollack. The period between Usu (February 19, 2020) and Gyeongchip (March 5, 2020) is known as the best tasting season.
