[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Amid ongoing controversy over actress Amber Heard allegedly assaulting her ex-husband Johnny Depp, additional audio recordings mocking Johnny Depp by Amber Heard have been released.
The British daily 'Daily Mail' exclusively obtained and published the audio file on the 5th (local time), stating, "We have obtained an audio file of Amber Heard mocking Johnny Depp, who claims to be a victim of domestic violence." The recording lasts about 30 minutes.
In the recording, Amber Heard says to Johnny Depp, "If you, as a man, say you are a victim of domestic violence, how many people do you think will believe you?" She adds, "You are taller and stronger than me. The jury and judge will realize there is a significant (physical) difference between you and me."
She continues, "I am a 115-pound (about 52 kg) woman, and you think I would say I started it? Really?"
The Daily Mail stated while releasing the recording, "Amber Heard denies the allegations of violence she inflicted on Johnny Depp, saying that the court does not side with men."
Amber Heard married actor Johnny Depp in 2015. In 2016, just 15 months after their marriage, Amber Heard filed a domestic violence lawsuit against Johnny Depp and initiated divorce proceedings.
In August of the same year, the two finalized their divorce agreement. Amber Heard received $7 million (approximately 7.463 billion KRW) in alimony through the divorce. Since then, Amber Heard has been active as a women's rights activist and a spokesperson for victims of domestic violence.
However, on the 2nd, audio recordings revealing arguments between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp before their divorce were reported, continuing the controversy over Amber Heard's alleged assault.
In the recordings, Amber Heard admits to assault, saying to Johnny Depp, "I didn't slap you properly. I did hit you, but this is not hitting."
She further says, "I'm sorry for hitting you, but I don't know how my hand moved," acknowledging the assault and sparking controversy.
