[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Despite Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol stating that he has no political ambitions, related stocks are surging as he rises to second place in the support ratings for the next presidential candidate. In addition to Seoyeon and Mobeis Electronics, which are known to have Yoon's university classmates as outside directors, Bubang, which has outside directors who are seniors and juniors of Yoon from the Judicial Research and Training Institute, is also showing activity.

As of 10:30 a.m. on the 4th, Seoyeon is trading at the upper limit price of 4,225 won, up 30.00% from the previous day. At the same time, Mobeis Electronics and Mobeis rose by 15.23% and 7.92%, respectively. Mobeis Electronics, a manufacturer of automotive electronic components, and its subsidiary Seoyeon are companies whose outside directors are alumni of Seoul National University Law School alongside Yoon.

Bubang, the parent company of electric rice cooker maker Cuchen, is also gaining attention and showing an upward trend. It was revealed that Heo Boyeol, an outside director of this company, is a senior-junior colleague of Yoon from the Judicial Research and Training Institute and was affiliated with the same law firm, Bae, Kim & Lee LLC. Currently, it is trading at 2,515 won, up 4.57% from the previous day. Previously, Bubang had been on a downward trend after recording mid-2,800 won levels in mid-last month.

The surge in these 'Yoon Seok-yeol theme stocks' is due to a poll result showing Yoon as a leading presidential candidate. Despite Yoon stating that he has no intention of running for president or engaging in politics, related stocks are reacting actively.

Earlier, on the 30th of last month, Research & Research, a polling agency, conducted a survey commissioned by Segye Ilbo, which showed Yoon with a support rate of 10.8%, ranking second after former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon (32.2%). Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, who had consistently held second place, fell to third with 10.1%. The survey was conducted from the 26th to 28th among 1,007 adults aged 18 and over nationwide. For further details, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
