[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is promoting the ‘Children’s School Commute Traffic Safety Guidance Project’ to prevent crimes and traffic accidents on the way home from school.
Under the guidance of traffic safety instructors, children heading home in the same direction are grouped into groups of up to 8 per school route to accompany them on their way home and provide traffic safety education, aiming for zero traffic accidents involving children.
The district will first publicly recruit 24 traffic safety instructors to work at 10 elementary schools in the district, including Sangdo Elementary School, by the 10th.
The participating schools (a total of 10) are Sangdo, Daerim, Namseong, Namsa, Haengnim, Sinsangdo, Gangnam, Heukseok, Yeonghwa, and Dongjak Elementary Schools.
Preferred selection criteria include ▲residents of Dongjak-gu as of the announcement date ▲more than one year of experience in children’s traffic safety-related fields (such as members of the Green Mothers’ Association) ▲holders of traffic safety-related certificates ▲submission of a recommendation letter from the principal of the respective school. After document screening by school, the results will be announced on the 14th.
The selected traffic safety instructors will be assigned after confirming participating students (prioritizing grades 1?2) and routes through demand surveys at each school after the semester begins, and will be active until December (excluding school holidays and vacation periods).
Employment information can be found on the Dongjak-gu website, and those wishing to participate should visit the Traffic Administration Division to submit application forms and job registration certificates.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Traffic Administration Division (☎820-1642).
In preparation for the new semester, the district will conduct safety inspections around 80 kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools in the area, including children protection zones and educational environment protection zones, by the end of this month.
Inspection areas include ▲safety management of school commute routes affected by nearby construction sites ▲condition of sidewalks and fences around school commute routes ▲management status of road markings and signs in children protection zones.
Han Daehee, head of the Traffic Administration Division, said, “We will continue to strive to create a safe commuting environment where students and parents can feel secure,” and added, “We hope many residents interested in becoming traffic safety instructors will participate.”
