Figures Who Shined in the Air Force... 151st Squadron Contributing to F-35 Operational Capability The 151st Fighter Squadron of the 17th Fighter Wing (Lieutenant Colonel Lee Hyung-jae), awarded in the combat power development category.


[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] The 151st Fighter Squadron of the Air Force's 17th Fighter Wing (hereinafter 151st Squadron) was selected as one of the '2019 Air Force Distinguished Personnel.' They were recognized for their contribution to the stable and successful operational deployment of the stealth fighter F-35A.


On the 3rd, the Air Force announced that it selected 9 teams and 1 individual in 7 categories as the '2019 Air Force Distinguished Personnel' and awarded plaques and prize money. Among the group awards, the 151st Squadron and the 261st Air Refueling Squadron of the 5th Air Mobility Wing (hereinafter 261st Squadron) received awards in the combat power development category. The 151st Squadron contributed to the stable and successful operational deployment of the stealth fighter F-35A, while the 261st Squadron was recognized for significantly enhancing the Air Force's long-range operational capability and mission endurance through the successful operational deployment of the KC-330 air refueling aircraft.


The Logistics Command's Logistics Development Division received the National Quality Management Award in 2019 for the first time in the entire military and was awarded in the organizational operation development category for winning 22 gold medals at the 'National Quality Control Team Competition' from 2001 to the present. Sergeant Kim I-seop of the 17th Fighter Wing, who was the only active-duty soldier among the South Korean representatives at the 45th International Skills Olympics held in Russia last year and won a gold medal in the 'IT Network System' category, received an award in the 'New Knowledge and Informatization' category.


In the 'Sacrifice and Service' category, the 6th Search and Rescue Squadron (hereinafter 6th Squadron), which operates search and rescue helicopters such as the HH-60 and HH-47D, was awarded. The 6th Squadron was deployed to ship sinking accidents that occurred last year in Jeju Island and Gunsan, performing timely search and rescue missions, and took the lead in wildfire suppression missions nationwide throughout the year, protecting the lives and property of the people. The Air Force Band was selected in the 'Sports and Culture' category, and the Aerospace Combat Development Group was selected as the recipient in the 'Special' category.


Air Force Chief of Staff Won In-chul said, "I commend the efforts of the awardees who have devoted themselves to the development of the Air Force and the Republic of Korea in their respective fields," and added, "Please continue to do your best to build the strongest elite Air Force that stands with the people."
