Mongolian Bayangol District Delegation Visits 'Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Center', Amazed by VR and Drone Experience... Over 150 Domestic and International Groups Visited in 2019, Emerging as a 'Benchmarking Hub for 4th Industrial Technologies'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the 29th of last month, the ‘Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Center’ located in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu, was filled with amazement as a delegation from Bayangol District, Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia, flew drones for the first time in their lives.
The Mongolian Bayangol District delegation, which established a sisterhood relationship with Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) in August 2018, visited Seongdong-gu on the 28th of last month. The delegation, led by District Mayor Uden Tuya, benchmarked major facilities and policies of Seongdong-gu during their 5-day, 4-night schedule.
The biggest attraction for the delegation was the ‘Seongdong 4th Industrial Revolution Center.’ Upon entering the center, visitors were impressed by the indoor drone field with a height of 15.25 meters.
Opened in 2017, the center welcomed over 150 domestic and international local governments and organizations for tours and benchmarking in 2019 alone. Beyond its domestic fame, it has now become the first stop for foreigners visiting Seongdong-gu. The center covers a total floor area of 1,263㎡ (2 floors). The first floor houses the indoor drone field, AI-based ‘Maker Space,’ and a one-person broadcasting studio called ‘Media Lab.’ The second floor is an educational space where visitors can learn about 4th Industrial Revolution technologies including the Internet of Things, VR/AR, artificial intelligence robots, and big data.
In July of last year, a delegation from Batticaloa City, Sri Lanka, which visited for child-friendly benchmarking, was also amazed by the advanced future technologies they had only heard about, experiencing VR and drones firsthand.
Vice Chairman Burma of the Mongolian delegation said, “The reality is that Mongolia still has weak awareness and infrastructure regarding the 4th Industrial Revolution,” adding, “After touring the center and experiencing it directly, I feel we must work hard to introduce such facilities in Mongolia as soon as possible.”
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Our district was the first in the nation to open a 4th Industrial Revolution experience center and is leading the way in advanced future technology education,” and added, “We hope that the future technologies of the center will greatly help not only Bayangol District in Mongolia and many other cities around the world but also all local governments and institutions visiting the center to embrace the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
